RRC Hosts Fleet Operator Workshops on Propane Vehicle Incentives

Austin – The Texas Railroad Commission—Texas’ top energy agency— is hosting a series of workshops statewide to help fleet operators take advantage of grant opportunities for propane-fueled vehicles.  The grants help offset the upfront cost of propane vehicles and propane refueling infrastructure.

Commissioner David Porter said, “Seventy-five Texas school districts run propane school buses and save millions of dollars in fuel costs every year.”

Commissioner Buddy Garcia said, “At these workshops, participants can ride the latest ultralow-emission propane vehicles and talk directly with fleet managers about refueling, incentives, cost-effectiveness and availability.”

Propane Autogas and NPGA Featured on Platts Energy Week

Richard Roldan, president and CEO of the National Propane Gas Association, joined Bill Loveless, host of Platts Energy Week, to discuss the opportunities and challenges facing the industry.

Expanding supplies of propane have led to new market opportunities for our fuel including use in fleets, commercial, and residential markets.  The interview focused on what the propane industry is doing to grow these markets and expand the use of clean, domestic, and abundant propane.

Texas Municipality Taking A Deeper Dive Into Propane Autogas

The City of Temple, Texas, is working with CleanFuel USA and Public Solutions Group to convert 11 of its fleet vehicles to run on propane autogas. The project is getting support from the Clean Start Propane Refueling,Vehicle Incentive & Outreach Program, which Texas State Technical College administers.

Right now, there are four autogas-powered vehicles in the city's fleet of 425 vehicles (38% "general" vehicles, 38% light trucks, 22% heavy trucks and 2% motorcycles). Most of these vehicles accumulate at least 120,000 miles each over their average seven-year lifetimes.

Thomas Built CEO sees permanent shifts in school bus market

Kelley Platt, the company's president and CEO, says that transportation changes many districts are making — from running buses longer to increasing walking distances — have reduced the need for new buses and aren’t likely to be reversed. In turn, the OEM is focused on becoming more cost-effective in its manufacturing while maintaining quality. Platt discusses the market shifts, cost of ownership and product developments with SBF.

Factory-built, propane-fueled bobtail now a reality

Having such a history with autogas technology, Freeman Gas was interested to hear about a popular autogas project set for launch early next year: the first factory-built propane-fueled bobtail, built by Freightliner Custom Chassis Corp. The manufacturer says its S2G propane chassis will retain many of the same cab features, such as the wide turning radius that Shehan likes, of its diesel-powered models.  Read more here.

CleanFUEL USA Supports Propane People’s Celebration

Autogas Infrastructure Provider Outfits New Autogas Stations in Indiana

GEORGETOWN, Texas –– Oct. 5, 2012 – CleanFUEL USA is playing a role in Propane People’s 10-year anniversary celebration as the Indiana-based company opens its first public autogas station today. CleanFUEL USA provided fuel dispensing equipment for the new station and Propane People expects to install 10 additional stations at other locations across the state of Indiana.

R.W. Mercer and Paul Akers, Inc. also assisted with the installation. Funds for this project were provided by the Department of Energy (DOE) and the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act (ARRA), as part of a national effort to establish networks of propane (autogas) refueling stations. Through this effort, the DOE estimates millions of gallons of petroleum will be displaced annually, thereby reducing the country’s dependence on imported petroleum products.

The new station is located at 2848 US Highway 6, Waterloo, Indiana, 46793. Propane People will celebrate the station opening, as well as its 10th anniversary on Friday, Oct. 5 from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. The event is open to the public. Industry experts will be on hand from 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. to speak on autogas and the impact it continues to make on the industry.

Propane autogas is the third most widely used transportation fuel globally, behind gasoline and diesel, and is proven to be a more attractive option from an economic and environmental standpoint. As the lowest greenhouse gas emitting fuel, propane autogas averages 40 to 50 percent less emissions than gasoline and diesel per gallon. There are more than 52,000 propane autogas refueling stations and 17 million propane-powered vehicles worldwide.

“We are making a difference in the world by helping fleets reduce their environmental impact and giving companies the opportunity to buy alternative fuel manufactured in the U.S.,” said Mark Gibson, owner of Propane People. “We are proud to be one of the first propane autogas fill stations in Northeast Indiana. We have converted 20 vehicles in our own fleet and saved thousands of dollars in fuel costs.”

About CleanFUEL USA:
As a truly visionary company, CleanFUEL USA was the first to develop liquid propane fuel
injection systems in the U.S. CleanFUEL also manufactures propane autogas dispensers and fueling infrastructure and owns and franchises fueling locations across the US. Established in 1993, CleanFUEL is headquartered in Georgetown, Texas with vehicle engineering offices in Wixom, Michigan. CleanFUEL USA provides the total alternative fuel solution with superior economic and environmental advantages.

About Propane People:
In business for nearly 10 years, Propane People is based in Waterloo, Indiana and is locally owned by Mark and Christine Gibson, who also own Gibson’s Heating and Plumbing. The companies provide propane services for autogas, home heat, cook stoves, water heaters and other propane appliances, as well as farm and commercial accounts.

U.S. Carbon Emissions are Declining Thanks to Natural Gas and the Free Market

Emissions of carbon dioxide in the U.S. are now lower than they were in the year 2000, and they are expected to continue to decline, according to the U.S. Energy Information Agency (EIA) in their “Annual Energy Outlook 2012.” Furthermore, the EIA says that carbon dioxide emissions in the electricity-generating sector fell so much in the first three months of 2012 that energy-related CO2 emissions are on track to be at the lowest level since 1991.
