As the April 15th federal tax filing deadline quickly approaches, the U.S. Internal Revenue Service (IRS) is making things a little easier on those who qualify for the 2012 alternative fuel $.50 per gallon tax credit. The credit, which was retroactively extended through the "fiscal cliff" legislation earlier this year, recently received special filing procedures to extend the deadline to July 2nd, 2013.
For some quarterly filers, the deadline to receive the retroactive 2012 credit had already passed before the "fiscal cliff" legislation was even enacted on January 2nd. For the others, the IRS concluded that January 2nd to April 14th is not sufficient time to compile the necessary forms and paperwork to receive the tax credit. If you qualify to receive this credit, please check out the new IRS procedure here.
